Manifest & Move A morning ritual

Twelve minutes to feel grateful, look at one real number and plan the day.

A morning ritual for women who don’t have an hour, a sunrise view or a meditation cushion. It takes ten to twelve minutes and needs a glass of water, a pen and your calendar. The candle is optional. The calendar is not.

Do the steps in order. The point is to start the day by noticing what you have, looking at one real number and deciding what today is for, before anyone else’s inbox gets a vote. On rushed mornings, use the short version at the bottom.

Print one copy and tape it inside a cabinet door you open every morning.

  1. 01Feet on the floorBefore you check anything, sit on the edge of the bed and take five slow breaths. Your phone stays face down until step four. It will survive.1 min
  2. 02Water and lightDrink a full glass of water. Open the blinds or step outside, even if the sky looks like wet cement. Light a candle if you like one.2 min
  3. 03Three lines, by handOn paper, write one thing you’re grateful for, one thing you want, and one thing you’re done tolerating. Messy handwriting counts.3 min
  4. 04One real numberOpen your banking app or sales dashboard and look at one number: your checking balance, yesterday’s revenue or what’s left to save toward a goal. Write it next to your three lines. Looking is the habit. Fixing can wait until after coffee.1 min
  5. 05The calendarOpen today’s calendar and find the one thing that would make today count. Give it a specific time. If it isn’t on the calendar, it’s still a wish.2 min
  6. 06Say it out loudPick one sentence you want to believe today and say it once, out loud, to the mirror. Feeling a little silly is part of it.1 min
  7. 07The first moveSpend two minutes on the thing you just scheduled. Open the doc, write the subject line, pull up the invoice. Starting is most of the work.2 min

The 3-minute version

  1. Drink a glass of water before you touch your phone.
  2. Look at one real number and say it out loud.
  3. Put the one thing that matters on today’s calendar, with a time.
